Star Wars

Lucasfilm in their infinite wisdom have decided, with the upcoming release of the original Star Wars trilogy, not “to invest resources into sprucing up films that have already been restored to pristine form”. So what we get instead are transfers direct from Laser Disc.

Whothewhatnow?

This has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever to come out of Lucasfilm (though it runs behind Greedo shooting first). The films were not “restored to pristine form” in the revised editions. They where *changed*. They were *altered*. They were not “restored”.

It’s simple, George. So simple even you, the man who made Howard the Duck1 should understand it. What we want, George, is the original films – no changes, no edits, no extra effects – but cleaned up using today’s modern technology.

I suspect we will see something like this, around Christmas 2007 – the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars – when George needs another injection of cash.

1. When I first saw it as a kid, I loved that movie.
