My friend George Ivanoff, for his blog Literary Clutter, has asked me to write several hundred words on my first paid publication. My story “Such Is Life” appears in “Dead Red Heart“, a collection of Australian-themed vampire stories. While it’s hardly my first ever published work, everything prior has been “self-published” – in fanzines like The Captain’s Log or Alliance and in Frontier: The Australian Science Fiction Media Magazine. So actually getting paid for my work is a new experience for me.
And now, I have to sit down and think about what that means to me.
