NaNoWriMo – Day 1: And So It Begins

So, NaNoWriMo 2010 has started. And I’ve started writing; 2700 words in, 47300 left to go. After a small success I had recently with writing a submission to an anthology, I felt it was time again to take the big plunge (following my first attempt in 2006 which bombed miserably).

However this year I’ve taken the effort much more seriously, in a couple of different ways. I’m trying to ignore my built-in self-editor, which tells me to polish stuff I’ve written every couple of pages until I’m completely happy with it; that is definitely not what NaNoWriMo is about. I’m also trying to focus on just putting out the words in a coherent fashion, so at the end the result in a story that makes some sort of sense. Something better can be assembled from the train wreck after the month is over!

I’ve also this year decided to see if I can blog every day about the experience. While this may take a little from the writing time, I’m hoping that it’ll not only keep my creative juices flowing, but provide a nice record of the time for me to read about later. I’m only allowing myself to blog after I’ve finished the day’s allocation of words, though I’ll see how long that lasts!

I look forward to reading back these blog entries and seeing my thought process over the month. And I’m hoping that I actually make the 50,000. Wish me luck!
